A second follow-up following on from the hand-set locking post from Ewan’s meeting with the man from 3. Another quote:
Fergal: …you’re perfectly fine using another handset that you’ve bought elsewhere with your 3 SIM.
This clearly is the case in practice… I use a Vodafone-branded (unlocked) E61 with my 3 SIM every day, but I have been concerned… Three’s T&Cs state:
5.3 Each SIM may only be used in Handsets which are enabled for 3 Services and are authorised by us for Connection to the 3 network. Any attempt to use the SIM in other Handsets may result in serious damage to the Handset and may prevent you from being able to use it, including the making of emergency calls. In these instances, we are not responsible for any such damage or usage problems.
That, to me, means I shouldn’t be. But several forum postings such as this suggest the only restriction is using a non-3G phone which forces all the calls onto their 2G partner (Orange now, O2 previously) and costs them… resulting in warning texts and disconnection threats.
I hope the forum’s right, but the T&Cs probably could do with being clearer.
Actually, this is one I might e-mail them about for an answer on the X-Series official blog.
