Eseries reports that Seven is beta testing a new version. They didn’t like Seven’s offering (in the guise of Cingular Xpress Mail) so much previously, but the new one includes push from more services including Gmail, Yahoo and AOL (although if you use AOL you really shouldn’t be allowed to send any e-mail… let alone wirelessly) and a much slicker interface. It also has some neat new configuration options including control over roaming, on / off times and behavior when the battery is low. I wasn’t quite as down on the current version when I looked at it (as Three’s implementation) way back, but this certainly looks better. Sub-folder syncing would be a huge improvement for me as a IMAP user with tons of archive folders.
There’s a public beta going on, but sadly once this is done you’ll only be able to get it via Operators such as Three (who badge it as MobileMail). I wonder if they’ll upgrade (and fix any of the existing annoyances) ? Wider integration with popular platforms like Google certainly sits well with the X-Series offering (I think…).
