Not sure if I missed the announcement (Om announced that they intended to launch back in March as did Engadget) but I’ve seen nothing else recently. However YouTube Mobile is up and works great with X-Series. Switching out to RealPlayer is an annoyance because it insists on asking for permission to connect to the network, but otherwise it looks good on the N73 and E61 I’ve tried using.
Opinions vary on the quality of most YouTube content (I watched a movie trailer, an accordion player, ‘urban ninjas’ and a laughing baby…), but it filled last night’s train ride home better than any of the free papers pushed at you as you walk into any London mainline station (or dumped in piles on most trains).
Update: OK there were a few announcements by Gizmodo and Mashable amongst others, but I would have expected a bigger noise. Perhaps Vodafone would stop banging on about the ‘internet being mobile‘ now as if they’re innovating here – as far as I can tell this launch puts everything they list as available via any mobile network with a data plan.
